WATER SHUT-OFF POLICY / WINTERIZATION

Self Shut-Off:

If your property will be vacant for more than 30 days, you have your own curb stop key, and you wish to perform your own water shut-off, please email MEWAwater@gmail.com.

  • MEWA will require a photograph showing the location of your curb stop and will provide written permission, in the form of an email, authorizing you to perform the shut-off

  • If you have already received permission from MEWA, you do not need to email again

  • If you are unsure whether you have permission from MEWA to turn off your curb stop, please email us and we will confirm your authorization.

Remember: Always winterize both the customer service line and your home to help prevent freezing and potential damage.

Water Service Shut-Off and Turn-On Assistance Upon request (FORM):

MEWA may assist by operating the water service valve. This service is provided solely as a courtesy. Property owners remain fully responsible for their private plumbing systems.

Prior to a requested shut-off, the property owner may be required to acknowledge that the plumbing has been winterized.  MEWA is only operating the valve, and the owner assumes responsibility for leaks, flooding, frozen pipes, burst pipes, or other damages after service is shut off.

When service is restored, MEWA may require the property owner or representative to be present.

MEWA assumes no responsibility for damage to privately owned plumbing systems resulting from turning water service on or off.
